What decides the price of a Telegram username

Length is the first filter, but it is not the price. On 2026-11-02 the seven-day median for four-letter handles was 6,049 GRAM across 36 sales, while five-letter and six-letter handles both had a median of 10 GRAM across 434 and 472 sales. The difference is not the letter count alone: it is whether a name is a word, a pattern or a random mix — and whether anyone is competing for it.

The four classes, with real medians

English words, any length19840Meaning is scarce. Few sales, wide spread.

Seven-day medians from the site's own /data/usernames-daily.json, recorded from Fragment, 2026-11-02. A median of 10 GRAM does not mean every five-letter name is worth 10; it means most recorded sales in that class were cheap handles.

Read the table the right way round. The median describes a class, not your name: a five-letter dictionary word can beat a random four-letter mix, and a four-letter mix can still sell near the market floor of 5–10 GRAM for random handles. What the numbers prove is where the money is: four characters and real words, in that order.

How the estimate turns a class into a number

Every handle is first sorted into a class: four characters, an English word (by length, and whether it is among the 3,000 most common), a palindrome or a repeating pattern, a short number, a two-word brand, a crypto or business keyword, or a short pronounceable brand. Random letter mixes are marked as junk and never become a deal, however cheap they look.

Inside the class, the value is a recency-weighted median of real Fragment sales over the last 12 months, with at least 8 sales after cleaning. A sale's weight halves every 60 days, so last month counts far more than last spring. Then three limits apply: the same handle changing hands again within 60 days is not a new datapoint; prices more than 8 times above or below the class median are dropped; and brandable or pattern classes are capped by the cheapest similar handle listed right now, because nobody pays more than the cheapest alternative.

What to check before you buy or sell

Four things, in this order: the handle's own sale in the last 12 months (the strongest evidence there is), the median of its class, the cheapest similar handle listed today, and the 5% fee you will pay when you resell. If the class has too few sales, the page says "not enough comparable sales" with the last sale and its date instead of a number — treat that as a warning, not a valuation.

Two classes deserve a special note because sellers overprice them most often. A two-word brand (something like a product or a company name) is not valued by its letters but by the cheapest similar handle listed, so the cheapest competing listing sets your ceiling, not your imagination. A crypto keyword is valued by its own sales only, because a handle that merely contains a brand is not the brand — and the market prices the exact word, not the reference to it.

Frequently asked questions

Is every four-letter username worth thousands?

No. The 6,049 GRAM figure is a median across 36 sales of that class, pulled up by brandable names. A random four-letter mix trades near the market floor for random handles, which the method puts at 5–10 GRAM.

Do dictionary words beat short names?

Sometimes. The seven-day median for English words was 840 GRAM — below four-letter names, but far above five- and six-letter random mixes. A five-letter word can beat a random four-letter mix; a four-letter word usually beats both.

Why is the median for five-letter names only 10 GRAM?

Because most recorded sales in that class are bulk cheap handles. A median describes the middle of the class, not its best members — which is why the estimate also caps and cleans the data before it answers.

Does the estimate include the 5% resale fee?

No, values are gross sale prices. Fragment takes 5% when you resell, so a 1,000 GRAM sale returns 950 GRAM before network and conversion fees.
