What is TON DNS and how to buy a .ton domain

TON DNS is the naming service of the TON blockchain. It lets you own a readable name such as alice.ton instead of a long wallet address. The name is an NFT: it sits in your own wallet and you can sell it later.

What a .ton domain is used for

• A short name for your wallet, so people can send to alice.ton instead of pasting a long address. • A website address on TON Sites, opened through TON-aware browsers and proxies. • A name for a project, a brand or a smart contract on TON. • A collectible: short, clean, word-like names are held and traded much like usernames.

How to buy a .ton domain

1. Pick a name: 4 to 126 characters, using letters a to z, digits and hyphens. 2. Check whether it is free. A free name is sold in an open auction on dns.ton.org; a name that already has an owner is bought from that owner on a TON NFT marketplace. 3. Connect your own TON wallet and place a bid in GRAM (formerly TON). The highest bid when the auction ends wins. 4. If someone outbids you, your earlier bid is returned to your wallet. 5. After you win, link the name to your wallet address or your site.

What it costs

There is no fixed price list. Free names are priced by the auction, and short, clean, word-like names usually cost more than long or random ones. A current bid is not a sale price, so look at what similar names really sold for before you bid.

Check live .ton auctions

Our TON Domain Hunter lists the open .ton auctions we see on the blockchain, with four separate indicators for every name: quality, deal, confidence and risk. Sale-based values appear only where real sales exist. We never bid for you: you bid yourself, from your own wallet, on dns.ton.org. Not financial advice.

TON DNS is not a Telegram username

Telegram @usernames are sold on Fragment (how to buy a Telegram username); .ton domains are a separate TON system. Both are paid in GRAM, the new name of TON (GRAM vs TON).
